Mark Heffron predicts a big year ahead with titles fights lined up…..

Mark Heffron 18-0 (14 ko’s) firmly cemented his place at the top of the British super-middleweight rankings in 2017 with 5 solid wins. He knows the importance of keeping that momentum going after a stop-start couple of years and has set his sights on domestic titles in 2018 –

“It’s very important for me to build on last year. I just want to fight as often as possible now. Even looking at my last fight (7th round stoppage over Lewis Taylor) it was a step-up and I handled it well and stopped someone who had never been stopped before. So I think im ready to move on to title fights now at this stage.”

Heffron told KO Boxing News that in his quest for titles he’s decided to take a move down to middleweight to challenge for titles this year –

“I’ve decided to move down to Middleweight and im mandatory now for a shot at the British title against the winner of Jack Arnfield and Tommy Langford who fight on Feb 17th. To be honest, I’ve been making the weight at super-middle really easy so it wont take much out of me moving down and il still have my speed and power.”

A familiar face in Heffron’s team is former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton and Heffron says that experience in the corner is invaluable –

“It’s been really good having Ricky there. He’s been showing me a lot of new things in the gym so it’s great having someone there like that who’s been there and done it. Even when he’s working the corner, he’s really calm and puts his instructions across really well.”

Looking ahead and Heffron has a clear picture of where this year will take him and what he wants to achieve –

“Obviously the British title fight is next up for me, ideally then I want to make a few defences of it during the year, but at the same time im leaving the door open to fight again at super-middle. Id happily move back up for the right fight but my main focus now is winning that British title.”
