Keane ‘The Iceman’ McMahon – “Im like a dangerous animal again in there”….

One of Ireland’s most talked about prospects, Keane ‘The Iceman’ McMahon 1-0 is finally back in action following a lay-off. The talented welterweight is back out on Feb 17th on the Neil Power promoted ‘Ring Kings‘ show in Waterford.

Ahead of his return I caught up with Keane to see how preparations are going as he looks to make an assault on the domestic scene –

KO – Following your lay-off with nearly a year out of the ring, does this feel like a second debut or new start to you?

KM – That’s it really, after I had my first fight I put a lot of pressure on myself coming up to my second one. It wasnt enjoying it at the time, but now im back and 100% focused. Im really enjoying it again and im buzzing to be going to training again. Im relaxed and happy back boxing so im like a dangerous animal in there now.

KO – Your back out on February 17th, hows training been going for it?

KM – It’s going good, im doing 2-3 sessions a day getting back to full fitness. I’ve been back doing my strength & conditioning work this week too so it’s back in full swing, like I said im just back enjoying it again which is the main thing.

KO – So with the time out, how important is it for you now to start building momentum?

KM – Very important, I suppose im making up for lost time really. I wanted to be 3-0 by the end of last year, but that’s just how it goes. To be honest, I just want to get back in action now. My manager Dave Murphy has a plan laid out so im just following that.

KO – And looking ahead, whats your plan then for the next 12 months?

KM – Im hoping to fight 4 times this year. With the way Irish boxing is going with new promoters and shows all over the country it’s a great time be a pro boxer and stay active.

Obviously Neil Power has his show in Waterford and Boxing Ireland are doing great things and really building the sport with the ‘Celtic Clash’ series. So I just want to be part of that and be on those big shows and eventually I want to headline those big nights in the National Stadium.

Id also just like to thank my sponsors – Dublin Plumbing & Gas and The Badass Cafe
