- George Groves has fired the first verbal shots ahead of his super-middleweight showdown with Chris Eubank Jnr and has raised questions over Eubank’s ability at world level –
“Junior’s been craving the big fights without actually wanting them. He attaches his name to big fights and then they fall through and he boxes at a much lower level. But I’m sorry to say that Junior isn’t good enough, he doesn’t have the pedigree or the ability.
“You’re Insta-famous. Fantastic short clips on the bag or pads. They look great. You punch from the ankles from the get go.”
- Pound for pound star Vasyl Lomachenko has spoken about what he expects from Guillermo Rigondeaux ahead of their much-anticipated showdown on Dec 9th and said he has his eyes solely on this bout –
“I think he will fight like he’s in his last match, he will try to run, to keep a distance and then the punches will come. I have not seen him be very aggressive [in his fights].
“I do not like to think about the future, I am focused on December 9. I make my career for my family, for myself, for leaving a legacy.”
- Freddie Roach says he rates Miguel Cotto as the best Puerto Rican boxer of all time ahead of his final battle on Saturday against Sadam Ali. And Roach said they have left no stone unturned in their preparations –
“I’d rate Miguel Cotto as the best [Puerto Rican boxer] of all time but people have opinions but I also like Wilfredo Gomez.
“When you mix generations like this things change. When you have a younger guys coming up fighting an older fighter it’s very difficult. That’s why we’re training so hard for this fight. We’re going against the younger generation and [Sadam Ali] can box. We’re taking this fight very seriously.”
