Boxing news roundup…..

KO BOXING

  • Carl Frampton has today confirmed that he’s parted ways with Barry McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions. Rumours had been circulating for some time, and the news broke earlier. Frampton had been due to fight Andres Gutierrez in Belfast recently but the bout was called off after Gutierrez suffered an injury.
  • Terence Crawford stopped Julius Indongo in round 3 of their light-welterweight unification fight on saturday in Nebraska. Crawford looks set for a move up to welterweight after cleaning up the lightweight & light-welter division.
  • A Lomachenko Vs Rigondeaux bout looks close to being made. The fight between two of boxing’s most natural talent’s looks like it could take place at the end of this year, possibly at the start of December. Top Rank’s Bob Arum recently said “I spoke to Roc Nation recently about Lomachenko fighting Rigondeaux,”. “Rigondeaux has agreed to move up from 122 pounds (where he holds a world junior featherweight title) to face Lomachenko at 130 pounds.” Arum went on to say that the bout would likely be held in New-York
  • Pound for Pound king Andre Ward says that a fight against heavyweight king Anthony Joshua could still be possible -“Nothing is off the table,” said Ward to Sky Sports. “I have got a lot of respect for Joshua, he is the heavyweight champ. He has earned it the hard way, he beat the old guard in (Wladimir) Klitschko, a great fight. I just wish Virg had tipped me off, gave me a heads-up.

“I had just come out of a battle, I am licking my wounds a bit, and then he is calling out the heavyweight champion of the world. I’m like ‘Virgil, come on man’! I don’t want to misconstrue the message. I don’t want to act like we are handling Joshua in any kind of way. He is the heavyweight champion of the world, he deserves that respect. But of course my team and myself, I believe I can beat anybody, so we’ll see. Time will tell.”
