Hard-hitting cruiserweight Jose ‘The Look’ Lopes is regarded as one of the top prospects in the UK. Recently on July 8th he scored another stoppage win following his setback loss against Ossie Jervier. KO Boxing News recently caught up with the Stratford boxer….
KO – Well done on the win last Saturday, was it important for you to get back to winning ways after a setback against Jervier?
JL – Thank you John. Yeah after my first loss it was really important to get back to winning ways in order to get back in the mix. The fight with Jervier was a major setback, it was something that I hadn’t expected would happen, at least at this level. But now all I can do is rectify the mistakes made on that night and make sure that it doesn’t happen again.
KO – And how did training go for this fight?
JL – To be honest this was the best training camp I’ve had so far. I had to go away to the Lake District and solely focus on the fight. This fight was very crucial, because once again I had to prove to everyone that I’m still one of the best prospects in the country.
KO – Did you bring anything new into camp after your last fight? –
JL – One thing that I can really say that has changed is the sparring. In the north I’m getting some quality sparring at the Fury’s camp and there’s also Jeff Saunder’s boys up in Newcastle which have really helped me prepare for this fight.
KO – And when can we expect to see you back in he ring?
JL – I should be Back in the ring in September, just don’t have a fixed date yet. I’m having a meeting with my manager this week to confirm.
KO – And looking ahead, it’s a pretty good division right now, there’s – Matty Askin, Arfan Iqbal, Ovil McKenzie who all have domestic titles in the division, is there anyone out there you’re hoping to get a shot at?
JL – Yeah it’s an exciting division at the moment, so many good boxers out there. If it was up to me I’d jump straight away with the top guys in the division. I want to fight the best, but to get shot a the British title you have to put yourself in that position by winning fights and climbing the rankings.
I’d like to get a shot at the Southern area or the English title right now. I know that the guys holding the titles might have a mandatory defense but if the fight was offered to me I’d take it without a doubt.
Willing to take on any of the big names out there, Jose Lopes is another exciting prospect in the already talented cruiserweight division. With the backing of Goodwin Boxing and his natural ability and exciting style, there’s no doubt he’ll be challenging for titles sooner rather than later…
