Ireland’s Mick Conlan claimed a third straight stoppage win on the undercard of the massive stadium fight with Pacquiao-Horn.
The Belfast bantamweight was fighting at the SunCorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia, on the massive Top Rank card, and put in an impressive display.
Conlan took on local fighter Jarrett Owen in a six rounds bout, the Brisbane boxer is the reigning Queensland champion so it was a step up in class for Conlan.
Conlan, didn’t take long to put his stamp on the bout, taking the fight to Owen from the start. The Belfast man had a clear edge in speed and skill, and quickly started landing at will.
Owen had some success in the 2nd round but it wasn’t enough to deter Conlan and in round 3 Conlan sank in a left hook to the body that had Owen in trouble. Conlan smelt blood and jumped on his opponent, following a barrage of punches, the referee called a halt to the bout giving Conlan his biggest win yet in the pro ranks.
There is talk that he could be fighting in Belfast this December to round off an excellent first year in the pro ranks.
