Joe Ward booked his place in another european final with a comfortable and comprehensive points win. The decision never looked in doubt against Brazilian-born Italian Valentino Manfredonia, who was injured in the opening round and did well to see the final bell.
The Moate southpaw began quickly, landing blistering flurries at will, before landing a huge left at in the closing seconds that badly hurt the Italian, and the Rio Olympian looked like he was in trouble early on.
In the second it looked like Manfredonia had injured his right knee, but he battled through the round, with Ward looking very comfortable.
Ward cruised through the third round en route to a comprehensive win.
Ward took all three rounds with all five judges to book his place in this afternoon’s final where he will fight Muslim Gadzhimagomedov of Russia.
Unfortunately Ireland’s gold medal hopes lie with Ward after Antrim fighters Brendan Irvine and Kurt Walker were eliminated and will take home bronze medals.
