Big Fight Preview – Ward Vs Kovalev II

Andre-Ward-vs-Sergey-Kovalev

When these two met in the ring last November, many people where wondering if the fight would live up to the hype?  Or would it be another Mayweather / Pacquiao snoozefest… Well, all boxing fans were treated to a spectacle from two of the top fighters in the world. Not only did the fight have everything, but it helped showcase boxing at its best. Two top fighters, with phenomenal skill and desire going toe to toe for 36 minutes.

So, here we are at the rematch less than a year later. Will it be repeat for Ward or revenge for Kovalev?

How the fight plays out – Both fighters believe they won the last one in November, so both will be full of confidence. Kovalev knows he can hurt Ward after dropping him in the first fight. So I expect him to try to force the pace a bit more and look to land more power punches while backing Ward up against the ropes. Kovalev also has very underrated skills like that excellent jab to the body, which I think he will use to tee up the big shots.

This could all play into Ward’s hands, who is a master at counter punching and nullifying his opponents. I expect Ward to start faster this time and get a foothold of the fight early on, something he didn’t do in the first fight. So, we shouldn’t expect anything new from Ward, and why should we? He won the first fight, and is the undefeated fighter.

Overall, I think  the fans are going to be the big winners here, im expecting a top class fight from two of the very best in boxing.

Prediction – Ward wins on points / unanimous decision

I think Kovalev was at his best in the last fight and still came up short. Ward made adjustments and improvements in the 2nd half of the first fight and dominated the last few rounds. So, I think he will put on a more dominant display and control the fight from the start this time, leaving no doubt as to who the pound for pound king of Boxing is.
