Ahead of his much-anticipated fight against Darren Cruise for the Irish Middleweight title on Saturday June 24th, Luke took time out of training to chat to KO Boxing news –
KO – Your fighting Darren Cruise for the Irish Middleweight title on June 24th, how has the training camp gone?
Luke – “Its going great, its been a really good camp. I started camp earlier then usual and the weight is on point, and iv had some hard sparring in the gym with Craig O’Brien & Spike O’Sullivan”
KO – Looking at the fight, what kind of fight are you expecting from Darren on the 24th?
Luke ” Darren’s really up for this one, im expecting him to be really fit and sharp, and I really think were going to see the best of Darren on the night”
KO – What can Darren expect from you on the 24th?
Luke – ” Look, im happy to go the distance if I have to. Il be looking to get the jab going and use my boxing skills, not load up on shots, but obviously if the opening is there il take it”
KO – What would it mean to join the likes of Steve Collins, Jim Rock, Matthew Macklin, Spike O ‘Sullivan, and win the Irish middleweight title?
Luke – ” It would be really great to win it and join those illustrious names. But I also want to keep progressing, hopefully to European level by the end of this year or early next year and maybe an intercontinental WBA shot”
KO – Finally Luke, any final message to the boxing fans reading and going to the fight on the 24th?
Luke – ” Just to thank them, without people buying tickets we wouldn’t be fighting on this show, so hopefully me and Darren can put on a great fight, and build on it with regular shows here in Ireland”
